Border Issues
If we have no borders, we have no country.
My brother John Strohm reminded me that during the last time I ran for Congress, I quipped that "If you can't control your your own borders, you're not a country. You're not even a speed bump."
Well, that hasn't changed. Neither has Congress' lacksadaisical attitude toward the problem.
But since 2006, we lost posse comitatus and gained the dubious benefit of having our military finally defend our borders. Too bad they're starting at the Canadian border.
On the other hand, we're building an Iron Curtain between the United States and Mexico. Same as the Iron Curtain and the Berlin Wall of the Cold War era, it's not stopping people from tunneling underneath.
But these aren't people seeking freedom. These are people seeking to bring crime across our borders.
We need better solutions. We need a reform of immigration that does not give amnesty to criminals, but allows legitimate job-seekers a lawful and managed path into our country, subject to law just like you and me.
